We normally have had our kick off picnic at Beard’s with the boys team, but we decided to try something different this time. At the party we collected booster fees, handed out practice kits, and asked people to sign up for volunteer slots for SSS and concessions. The booster leads did all the work around, spiritwear, fees etc, Deb ordered the pizzas, got the drinks and desserts.
Deb ordered the pizzas from Lake Harriet. They extended a 15% discount. She ordered a total of 32 pizzas, including 3 gluten free. She would recommend to make the gluten free, cheese only next time. We had too many pizzas and would recommend doing 20 pizzas next time. She also went to Cosco and got 5 pks of 40 bottles of water, and about 180 cookies. We had 1.8 pks of water leftover that we can use for the banquet and 1 package of cookies. So maybe buy 160 cookies for the same amount of people next time. She also gave each driver a $30 tip. She had the drop off of pizzas at 5:45 and 6:15.
We charge $10/adult. Next time I would recommend $5/person. The adult thing got confusing when taking money. We received a lot of good feedback that people liked it and did not mind paying in lieu of bringing food items for a potluck.
The players and parents were broken up into teams, and the coaches went over player expectations. We ended about 7:15pm.
Thoughts for collecting booster fees and practice uniform hand out. Create 4 lines, 1 line per team. Hopefully the line will go faster. Talk to people in line about volunteering through the site as they are in line. Once they have signed up for their shifts they can pick up their practice uniform and turn in spirit wear order sheets.
